Rules for printing
  • The minimum cost of a print is R10. However, larger prints may cost more.
  • You may only have one print in the queue at a time.
  • Sending the print will get it printed. You will be notified (via email) when the print is complete.
  • If the print cost is over R10 you will be asked (via email) to confirm the cost and the print.
  • A print can be rejected if the model will not print.
  • Payment happens when you fetch your print.
  • Cash only.
  • You can watch the feed on this url.
  • The printing queue works on a first-come-first-served basis.
  • Cleaning and assembly of the models are your responsibility. Some models will be printed with supports.
  • If you send a single model containing multiple objects, it will be printed in one go.
  • Once a print is in the queue (i.e. once it has been processed for printing), it can no longer be cancelled.

Cost of 3D printing
Handling fee: R2 - Will pay for printer upgrades in the long run
Costs per hour: R4 - Will pay for printer maintenance
Volume: The volume of your model. This is calculated by a slicer such as Cura (free to download). This will be done by us in the lab.
Price per volume: Calculated based on cost and volume of the material. The default material we use is called PLA filament and costs R300 per kilogram, whereas for the glow-in-the-dark filament, the price is R330 per kilogram. The weight is 1.25g/cm^3.

The cost is calculated as follows:
Handling fee + hours * cost per hour + volume * price per volume
Print sizing
To check the size of a model or to resize you will need to download Cura (which is free).
Select "Ultimaker 3" as the printer template and drag-and-drop the STL file into Cura to view/edit it.
When you're done, save the file as STL (not OBJ or GCode).
