IMY 120 | Digital self-portrait | 2025

To finish off the section on Photoshop, the first years in IMY 120 are tasked with creating a digital self-portrait around a main idea about themselves. The best submissions are shown below in no particular order.

This is my self-portrait because it represents my inner world and how I engage with it. It doesn’t show my face, but it visually communicates my personality and how I view the world. The portrait captures my deep connection to books , the escapism and inspiration books provide, showing how I find calm and creativity in imaginary worlds. It reflects my identity as someone who values introspective thought and the power of a good story to transport you to another place.

The core values to portray are justice, revolution, curiosity, boldness and defiance. This design portrays my main idea idea and core values by placing myself in front of a wall of tv’s showing horror, political and controversial images. With large hands looming over them to represent oncoming dread or doom. Despite all this, I sit clam and open, showing my boldness, resilience and defiance. The multiple images shows my curiosity and divided attention. This is a self-portrait because it shows my inner mind. How I see myself in relation to the world as someone, who despite hardships, observes, questions and remains composed in the face of
fear, control and controversy

This artboard has a mixture of nature and personal ideas. It shows symmetry but its not completely symmetrical which emphasises the idea of nature. The river flowing does not only further add to the nature concept but also has connotations of growth/journey in life- this message is then supported by the images that have almost a vintage effect and they are placed along the edge of the water as if the washed up from the past. The jellyfish and koi fish show my love for animals- typical water creatures. The mountains and sunset show the idea of nature, almost evoking a sense of peace/calmness. The space background shows that my curiosity isn’t limited of what’s on Earth but what is beyond human knowledge.

Katlego Matsena

I am a creative and spiritual person who values growth and expression. The elements in my self-portrait show how faith and creativity shape what I create. Everything connects to how I use imagination create craft that glorifies.
